Theresa Williams Percell is an artist whose work is defined by her journey through life, creativity, and resilience. A graduate of Richmond Senior High School (Class of 1976) and a U.S. Army veteran (1980–1985), Theresa went on to earn two degrees from North Carolina Central University in Elementary and Middle School Education, with a minor in Special Education. Though she has worn many hats—daughter, mother, Miss Teenager Richmond County, soldier, and community leader—the role of artist has been a lifelong constant.

Currently based in Durham, NC, Theresa’s artistic journey has been enriched by her unique experiences and her family. She credits her Uncle O’Farrow, who taught her the fundamentals of blending colors, as her earliest inspiration. Working primarily with acrylics, she enjoys experimenting with mixed media and is known for painting on a variety of surfaces, from canvas and paper to bottles, furniture, and clothing. Her art reflects her spirituality and the vibrant peace she finds in music, both of which flow seamlessly into her work.

After a creative block in 2012, Theresa focused on sketching, always hopeful that her inspiration to paint would return. In 2024, thanks to an invitation from Lonnie and Jennifer to exhibit her work, that spark was reignited. Now, with a fresh outlook and a renewed commitment to her craft, she paints with even more focus and detail than before, bringing a symphony of color and emotion to each piece.

This exhibit, themed “Something Got a Hold On Me,” represents a turning point for Theresa. Her work explores themes of faith, trust, and transformation. As she embarks on this new phase of her artistic career, she is committed to sharing her gift with the world and hopes her art resonates with viewers on a deep level.

Theresa’s artwork will be featured at Culture Queens Gallery at M.E.G.A. Park, 705 W Hamlet Ave, Hamlet, NC, from November 10, 2024, through January 16, 2025. Support her journey by purchasing a piece as a meaningful holiday gift or a unique addition to your collection. Theresa also welcomes commissions and invites you to experience the story and heart behind each piece.

“In every brushstroke, there’s a story waiting to unfold. I hope my art offers you a moment to pause, to reflect, and to see the beauty in the details.” – Theresa Williams Percell
