Who We Are

Culture Queens are a minority group of women who love art in its many forms and celebrate it, appreciate it and create it. Culture Queens are artists, actors, models, fashion designers, singers, dancers, entrepreneurs, mothers, daughters, sisters. Game changers. Women of influence.

Founded in February 2019 by Jennifer Michelle, the Culture Queens began to change the narrative regarding minority participation in the arts community. After a visit to the Mint Museum’s “African Print Fashion Now” exhibit, Jennifer decided to start a monthly meet up, offering members of the group an opportunity to visit local museums and galleries.

To date, the Culture Queens have visited McColl Center, Harvey B. Gantt Center, Laca Projects and the Mint Museum Randolph. Bridging the gap between art and the minority community and building relationships with each institution is our goal.

Through education and inclusion, the Culture Queens are defying stereotypes.

The relationships built have created opportunities for the Culture Queens to produce two major events for our cultural community.

In March 2022, Jennifer and the Queens produced the QC GarMINT District fashion show at the Mint Museum.

In June 2022, Jennifer produced the Bringing World’s Together Cultural Experience Fashion Show at Studio 229 on Brevard.

With more partnerships being forged, Culture Queens is slated to produce two additional cultural events in 2022.

Culture Queens Outdoors

Our Queens are about the outdoor life too! Culture Queens Outdoors is an extension of Culture Queens that focuses on all things outdoors!

March 2020, we all had to pivot. COVID-19 impacted our lives in every way possible. Instead of meeting our Queens for art tours, we were wondering when it would be safe to go outside again.

When state parks opened up, Jennifer hit the road and started collecting miles on trails throughout NC.

October 2020  the Culture Queens Outdoors completed their first group hike at Linville Falls and Gorge. A group of six women, most meeting for the first time, started what is now a monthly meetup.

We are hiking, camping, zip lining, hosting a CCW class and more!

Join us for a visit to one of the many NC State Parks, retreats, and team building activities to see why we live for the outdoors. Starting July 2023, we welcome our SC chapter and begin exploring all the state has to offer.
